Katharine Harvey

There are so many talented people who call Ward 5 Markham their home. Katharine Harvey is one such resident.

Katharine Harvey’s artistic practice ranges from painting to installation and public art on a monumental scale, where she explores memory and the sensation of ephemeral, fleeting moments. At the core of her work is a fascination with the unseen, the liminal space between reality, the mind’s eye, and imagination.

A graduate of Queen’s University (BFA) and the University of Victoria, B.C. (MFA), Katharine Harvey has exhibited across Canada and in Hamburg, New York, Los Angeles, Monterey Bay, and Washington, D.C. Her 35-year career ranges from site-specific paintings to colourful large-scale architectural windows to kinetic sculptures playing with fantasy and light. She has designed both temporary and permanent artworks made of recycled plastic, glass, mosaic, LED lights, and steel. She has a second recent public art commission for the TTC’s Chester Subway Station. Galerie Borchardt represents her work in Hamburg, Germany.

Katharine lives with her partner Clemens and their dog Freddie on a farm in Ward 5.
