The first theft took place early in the morning at around 6:31 a.m. A white Hyundai Tucsan was stolen from the area of Linden Lea Street in Markham, Const. Andy Pattenden said.
The second warn-up car theft took place at about 8:36 p.m. in the area of Vaughan on Degas Drive, Pattenden said, adding that a black Toyota 4 Runner was stolen.Both were stolen while the owners left the vehicles unattended and running while the engines warmed up.
Police are reminding citizens they can prevent warm-up thefts by never leaving their vehicles running unattended, as it only takes a matter of a few mere seconds for opportunistic thieves to strike.
Criminals are known to watch areas and look for vehicles left unattended in a driveway, police said.
Police also remind citizens to never leave their children unattended in a vehicle that has been left running while at a gas station, convenience store, bank machine or any other premises.
While you are at home, keep keys out of sight, not near the door.
