There is never an acceptable time to dump garbage in our beautiful parks, woods, boulevards but at this time, there is even more concern. Today we went and picked up bags of garbage dumped at one of our beautiful Ward 5 parks…please do not dump your garbage in the parks, along the boulevards, in our woods, this includes yard waste and dog waste, pick up after your dog and take your bags home or at least, place them in a park receptacle.
Ward 5 is home to 45 beautiful natural parks, trails and playgrounds for the everyone’s enjoyment, relaxation, play. Should we have to look at garbage?
At this time our staff are busy picking up garbage of masks and gloves thrown in parks and along roadsides- this is unacceptable but staff are not out in full swing with the usual full compliment because of the shutdowns, so PLEASE give our staff a break when they are back out there in full swing. Why add household garbage to our normal park garbage and why place your items beside City provided bins?
Curbside pick up takes almost all of your household refuse including bulky items. Convenient recycling depots accept metal, styrofoam, plastic bags and cardboards; on Rodick Road we have Household Hazardous drop off for paints, electronics, batteries etc; Miller Depots also accepts garbage at very convenient hours at reasonable prices. Yes at this time, there are only 2 sites open but dumping has been an ongoing issue throughout our beautiful neighbourhoods and our City for years. Stop please stop dumping your garbage in our parks, woods, boulevards!
Important Information to note:
Gloves and masks are considered garbage and should be set-out in a tied clearplastic bag for bi-weekly clear bag garbage collection. Miller Waste will be leaving behind and OOPS stickering all blue boxes that visibly contain gloves and masks as these items are not recyclable.
Yard Waste will not be collected until mid May however you are able to drop off at the Blomington Compost Site, 1351 Bloomington Rd, Richmond Hill, ON Monday – Saturday 7am-6pm call 1 866-887-6457 for more information
