Feb 27, 2019 Environment Canada has issued a Snowfall Warning inclusive of Markham as follow:
Snowfall warning in effect for:
- Vaughan – Richmond Hill – Markham
Significant snowfall of near 15 cm today. Snow will continue through the day before ending this evening. The heaviest snow is most likely to fall this afternoon, resulting in a significant impact on the commute home late in the day. Motorists should allow extra time to reach their destination. This snow event will be from yet another in a series of low pressure systems which have formed over the Southern Plains States. This latest low will pass by just to the south of Lake Erie. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
What you Must Know! All parking on both sides of all City streets and lay-bys is prohibited during snow clearing operations regardless of a paid parking permit, exemption or daytime permit. You must move your car during clearing operations. In Cornell there are 6 designated areas for permit holders for overnight parking. If you suspect snow, please park your car in these areas until 7am to avoid ticketing. Existing parking permits and overnight exemptions held by residents are not valid during snow clearing operations. Residents can expect snow clearing to begin at the start of any snowfall and continue for up to the next 24 hours. On-street parking can resume in accordance with City parking regulations once snow clearing operations are complete.
Please move your vehicles during snow clearing. Plow operators try their best to clear but it is very difficult for the large machines to drive down streets with cars, laybys are considered part of the roadway. Tickets will be issued $150 for interfering with a snowplow.
There are 6 designated spots for overnight permit holders to park overnight but cars must be clear by 7:00am. As a reminder, the six streets for Cornell winter parking for permit holders: Northvale Road; White’s Hill Avenue; Cornell Rouge Boulevard; Country Glen Road; Cornell Park Avenue; Silverdale Road. The signs will read “Snow Removal : Parking – Permit Required.
It is prohibited to throw snow back onto streets and laneways.
