Dear Cornell Residents,

I cordially invite you to attend a Community Meeting on Wednesday October 25, 2023.  I will be hosting an in person Community meeting at the Cornell Community Centre in the Older Adults meeting room on the main floor, (just past the pool) at 7pm regarding an upcoming Cornell Development Application.  There will also be a statutory Public meeting at the Civic Centre/Hybrid available, a letter with details / date will follow.

I will be joined by City of Markham Planning staff as well as the Consultant planning team from Green City Development Group Ltd for the site located at the south/east corner of Bur Oak and Church St, (the previous Catholic High School site).  They will present their Development application for their property.  They together with City planning staff, will be available for questions and to address any concerns you may have.

A change is proposed for lands on the east side of Bur Oak Ave. The City of Markham has received complete Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment applications by Green City Cornell. You are receiving this notice as you live within 200 metres of the Subject Lands and are invited to participate in the review process.

Property Description

The 6.4 ha (15.8 ac) “Subject Lands” are located on the east side of Bur Oak Avenue, south side of Church Street and west side of Cornell Centre Boulevard (s/e corner of Church St and Bur Oak Ave)

Green City Cornell (‘the Owner’s) Proposal

The Owner is proposing Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendment applications to permit 162 lane-based townhouse and stacked townhouse units, 156 stacked condominium townhouse units, and two 13-storey buildings containing approximately 748 units on the Subject Lands. The amendments propose apartment units, long-term care and nursing homes be permitted in the 13-storey buildings, as well as non-residential uses at grade along Bur Oak Avenue.
